Optional Round-Robin at Goodlife Fitness (Dec 20th)
December 17, 2007 by susan.
Hi Gals -
We’ll be playing a round-robin format at the Queensview Goodlife Fitness Club this week, located at 2655 Queensview Drive, Ottawa. Play will start at 7 pm. Please click on the link in the column on the right side of this page to get a map to the Club.
We’ve invited the Goodlife squash gals to join us for the round robin. This will be a treat as it will give us a chance to play against some keen “squashers” that we don’t regularly see.
Play is optional. However, this is our last chance to play before the holidays are upon us, so I hope many of you take this opportunity to come out for one last hit before the new year begins.
See you on Thursday,
Susan

Job Well Done!
December 15, 2007 by susan.
I want to officially thank all the people who pulled together to make our Fall session run so smoothly. They are:
Lesley Kelly - League Co-Coordinator
Barb Fischer - Treasurer and now (League Social Organizer)
Danielle Shainks - Chief Statistician
Stephane Bazin - Chief Website Designer
Barb Byrne - Prize/Gift Goddess
Paullette Cogliati & Viola Hennessey - League Sages (special advisors)
…and all the club reps:
Tracey Lyall from the RA
Jocelyne Caloz from the Goodlife
Karen Littlejohn & Roxanne Gagnon from the Sportheque
Lisa MacElwee from the OAC
Thanks also to all the players who made suggestions about how to improve things for our league, who spared when they had already played a difficult match, and who kept us organized when we got off track.
It certainly was a team effort and I appreciate everyone’s contributions.
Susan

Final night of Women’s City League
December 14, 2007 by Steph.
It was a classic, as usual, the final women’s city league night for the fall session was well attended and great fun. Susan Logan was a gracious hostess as we all expected. The food was taken care of by Barbara Fischer who did a superb job with the catering. Although she lost track of a couple of trays of pasta….the entire menu was delicious, consisting of antipasto dishes, canaloni, manicotti, a superb salad, and wonderful desserts. By the looks of it, everyone loved the food.
I never cease to be amazed by the camaraderie and the friendship we all share at city league. From the moment the microphone came out…(a wooden spoon) and was passed around with each speaker and each announcement…the laughter became almost contagious. Did I say that we had a real great turnout tonight, we did, there weren’t many players not present which is great tribute to the organizers of the event. Susan Carbone, our fearless leader did a superb job with league organisation and leadership.
The Toy Mountain gift exchange is just one example of the depth of integrity our women’s league has reached. Not only does this simple principled game provide gifts for needy kids via the toy mountain program, it also serves our players as a sort of icebreaker/introduction game. Each player is matched with someone of a different level and is required to purchase a special toy reflecting the personal traits, likes, hobbies, professional abilities of this player. It is always a lot of fun hearing the description and particulars of the giver to the player receiving the gift.
Our winter session is starting on January 17, 2008. Players are invited to sign up for the next session as soon as possible by sending an email to: scarbone@rogers.com. If you need more information about how the league works, or would like to see photos of our fall session’s party night, please visit our website at: www.squashspirit.com.

PAULETTE’S MOST EXCELLENT ADVENTURE ON BONDI BEACH…..
December 9, 2007 by Steph.
G’day mates….squash mates that is. We arrived in Sydney yesterday late afternoon and made our way to our hotel on Bondi Beach.
After the trip on the “Great Ocean Road” everything pales by comparison, like I told the girls it was so beautiful it made me want to cry.
As far as I can see there is no frigging shade on the beach…I won’t last long. I’ve been with my girls and Darek too long, I felt like taking my top off like the other chicks….but then I thought it would be too traumatising on Darek….seeing that his eyes popped out when he saw me in my bra… I was thinking of buying one of those skimpy bikinis to blend in but I can’t be bothered getting the razor out…..can you dig it Susan?????… It has been a wonderful trip, a super time being with my girls but I’m getting antsy to get back to my regular routine, I’m not made out for long holidays. Just say a couple of guys walking into a shop with surf boards….on going sight here. Lots of souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants. People walk around dressed up, or in shorts and tank tops, or in bathing suits. Lots of tatoos here, most of them big and bold. Well I better get back to my tanning spot….I can only take 10 minutes on each side…then the umbrella goes up. Sarah is pretty red, still working on her tan, Laura….well you’ll see for yourself when we get back. Hopefully I’ll be in time for the party…and that’s what happened on Bondi Beach.
Love to all, Po.
