Final night of Women’s City League
It was a classic, as usual, the final women’s city league night for the fall session was well attended and great fun. Susan Logan was a gracious hostess as we all expected. The food was taken care of by Barbara Fischer who did a superb job with the catering. Although she lost track of a couple of trays of pasta….the entire menu was delicious, consisting of antipasto dishes, canaloni, manicotti, a superb salad, and wonderful desserts. By the looks of it, everyone loved the food.
I never cease to be amazed by the camaraderie and the friendship we all share at city league. From the moment the microphone came out…(a wooden spoon) and was passed around with each speaker and each announcement…the laughter became almost contagious. Did I say that we had a real great turnout tonight, we did, there weren’t many players not present which is great tribute to the organizers of the event. Susan Carbone, our fearless leader did a superb job with league organisation and leadership.
The Toy Mountain gift exchange is just one example of the depth of integrity our women’s league has reached. Not only does this simple principled game provide gifts for needy kids via the toy mountain program, it also serves our players as a sort of icebreaker/introduction game. Each player is matched with someone of a different level and is required to purchase a special toy reflecting the personal traits, likes, hobbies, professional abilities of this player. It is always a lot of fun hearing the description and particulars of the giver to the player receiving the gift.
Our winter session is starting on January 17, 2008. Players are invited to sign up for the next session as soon as possible by sending an email to: scarbone@rogers.com. If you need more information about how the league works, or would like to see photos of our fall session’s party night, please visit our website at: www.squashspirit.com.
