What is the Ottawa & District Women’s City League?

Want to spend a very enjoyable evening playing squash?  The Ottawa & District Women’s City League (ODWCL) may be what you’re looking for.  The League is designed especially for women, by women.  It’s a great way to meet new women squash players, expand your opponent network, get some great exercise, and have a fun evening!

How does the League work?

The O&D Women’s Squash League uses a team format and hosts two sessions during the year.  The first session runs from September to December and the second runs from January to April.  Teams are formed at the beginning of each session.  Depending on the number of players who register, we typically have 10 teams with 4 players on each team.   Each team has 4 levels, ranging from very experienced (level 1) to new-to-the-game (level 4).  Once teams are formed, team players at the same level compete against each other, playing a match.  Each game is scored to 9 points and the first player to win 3 of 5 games wins the match.  The number of games won counts towards your team’s league standing.

Where do we play?

We meet each Thursday night at a different squash club within the Ottawa area to play our matches and then spend some time socializing (optional).  Matches start at 7:00 pm and we play until the last match is finished, which is typically around 9:15 pm.

Concerned about your level of play?

Don’t be! We create teams so that you are placed in a group according to your level of play.

Can’t commit to playing every Thursday night?

That’s okay.  The League also maintains a “spares list”.  This is a list of all the names of women squash players who would be willing to substitute for a regular League player should this be necessary.   It’s a great way to try out the League and also determine your most comfortable playing level should you wish to join the League at some point.

How do you register?

Players can register by contacting their Club Representative or sending an email to the League Coordinator (see list below).  Registration takes place the first week of September and January.
